The work
What we work on around Minneapolis
NHA VFD repairs, replaces and maintains the heating and cooling equipment in Minneapolis homes and small commercial buildings: gas furnaces, hot water and steam boilers, central air, cold-climate and ductless heat pumps, water heaters, ductwork, humidifiers and ventilation, and the rooftop units on shops and offices.
Heating is the center of the work, because it has to be here. A Minneapolis winter regularly reaches 15 below, and a lot of the city still heats with boilers in houses built before 1939. We work on those systems as readily as we install a new condensing furnace or a heat pump, and we give you both prices when a repair and a replacement are both reasonable.
How we work
How a job runs, from the call to the cleanup
- 1
A person answers
Calls are answered 24 hours a day. We ask what the system is doing, how cold or warm the house is, and who is at home.
- 2
We diagnose before we price
The technician tests the failed part or measures the house, then shows you the reading or the problem before discussing cost.
- 3
Written options
For replacements you get a written price on the recommended equipment and at least one alternative, with the permit included.
- 4
The work, done carefully
Floors are covered, old equipment is removed, gas and venting are tested, and the system is started up and checked.
- 5
A walkthrough before we leave
Filter size, thermostat settings and what to watch for, plus rebate forms filed where the equipment qualifies.
Coverage
Where we work
We dispatch from our service office on Cahill Rd in southwest Minneapolis and from our head office in Carver, about 20 miles away along the Highway 212 corridor. Between them we cover Minneapolis and the southwest metro; the service area page describes the routes region by region, and where they end.

Guides
Who writes our guides
Our heating and cooling guides are written by Eloise Rasmussen, heating and cooling guides editor. They cover what work costs here with the sources named, what to do when something stops working, and how to keep a furnace or boiler running for decades. Read the guides.
